My passion for integrating diversity, equity, and inclusion into the field of conservation stems largely from personal experience. While working on my B.S. in Wildlife Management at University of Arizona, I had the opportunity to participate in an undergraduate field training program focused on diversifying the field of conservation. I experienced first-hand how support from these types of programs can transform a life and career by providing opportunities for students to gain practical work experience in the field while providing financial support. Now I have come full circle and help provide access to opportunities, support, and life-transforming experiences to conservation-oriented students across the country.
I am also proud to have recently authored, in collaboration with 9 other pioneering and aspiring women in wildlife, Chapter 7 of the book “Women in Wildlife Science: Building Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion,” edited by Carol L. Chambers and Kerry L. Nicholson and published in 2022. The chapter, “Women of Color in Wildlife: Stories of Support and Setbacks,” features vignettes from three former DDCSP Collaborative Scholars.
